WHAT THIS IS. Every dam in the district on the National Register of Specified Dams 2025 — the register the Central Water Commission and the National Dam Safety Authority are required to keep under the Dam Safety Act, 2021, compiled from what each State Dam Safety Organisation filed. It is complete as against that register, not a selection. WHAT A "SPECIFIED DAM" IS, because it is the inclusion rule and it is the Act's, not ours. A dam above fifteen metres in height measured from the lowest portion of the general foundation area to the top of the dam; or between ten and fifteen metres and meeting one of five further tests — a crest at least five hundred metres long, a reservoir of at least one million cubic metres, a design flood discharge of at least two thousand cubic metres per second, especially difficult foundations, or an unusual design. A smaller dam is not on this list because it is not on the register, and that says nothing about it. ORDER. Alphabetical. These district lists are deliberately not ranked, even though the register carries figures that would support a ranking: a district's dams are a register, and the two statewide lists — the highest dams and the largest reservoirs — are where the ranking lives. WHAT EACH ENTRY CARRIES. The register's own identifier for the dam, its river, its height above lowest foundation level, its gross storage capacity and its year of completion. Height is measured from the lowest foundation, not from the ground a visitor stands on, so it is larger than the wall looks. A LIST OF ONE ENTRY IS NOT A LIST. A district with a single dam on the register does not get a page: Bharatpur, Dholpur, Jodhpur hold one dam apiece and are therefore absent. The dams themselves are published and appear on their river basin's list. SOURCE AND ITS STANDARD. The register is the state's own record of its own dams, and this is the first district register on this site whose source is filing-grade rather than aggregated. Figures are quoted as the register prints them, decimals included.
Frequently asked
- What decides the order?
- This list is ranked on a editorial basis — see the methodology above for what that means for this list specifically.
- What counts as a source?
- Only a citation that is inline and expanded on the ranked subject's own page — never a source cited on this list alone.
- Why might an entry be missing?
- A rank is withdrawn, not renumbered, when the subject it named is no longer published. The gap stays visible rather than being closed.
- How often does this list change?
- A new dated edition, not a silent edit, is how the ranking itself changes.
