WHAT THIS IS. Every monument in the Jangladesh region, on the national or state register of protected monuments, whose recorded name identifies it as palaces and haveli. HOW A MONUMENT WAS CLASSIFIED, AND ITS LIMIT. The registers record a name, not a type. A monument appears here if its name contains palace, mahal, haveli or niwas. That misses anything named without one of those words and can catch a building inside one rather than the thing itself, so this is complete against the registers as classified by name — a narrower claim than complete against the region. ORDER. Alphabetical, carrying no judgement of size, age, condition or visitor interest. WHICH DISTRICTS, AND ON WHOSE AUTHORITY. Jangladesh is taken here to be Bikaner, Sri Ganganagar, Hanumangarh — 3 districts of the pre-2023 map the monument registers use. The assignment rests on a published definition of the region rather than on a government enumeration, because the state's own list of historic regions does not mention these districts: "It included the present-day districts of Bikaner, Churu, Ganganagar, Hanumangarh, and parts of Sirsa." WHERE THE SOURCES DISAGREE. One district on this list is claimed by more than one region, and the disagreement is recorded rather than settled quietly. Bikaner district is placed in Jangladesh by Wikipedia ("It included the present-day districts of Bikaner, Churu, Ganganagar, Hanumangarh, and parts of Sirsa.") and in Marwar by Wikipedia ("Although the former kingdoms of Bikaner and Jaisalmer were independent of the Marwar state, they are often included in the broader Marwar region due to geographical and cultural affinities."). This publication follows the Government of Rajasthan's own enumeration where it speaks, and a published regional definition where it is silent; nothing here decides which reading is right. WHAT A CULTURAL REGION IS NOT. It is not an administrative unit and it has no gazetted boundary. Regions overlap, their edges are argued over, and the district is the finest grain any source used here works at — so a monument sits in this region because its DISTRICT was assigned to it, not because anybody has drawn a line around the monument itself. Treat this as complete against the mapping, which is a narrower claim than complete against the region. WHY VAGAD AND MEWAT HAVE NO LISTS. Both are real regions and neither could be assigned a district honestly. The Government of Rajasthan places Dungarpur and Banswara — Vagad's two districts — in Mewar, and this publication prefers the state's own enumeration where it speaks. Mewat's published definition claims named tehsils of Alwar, Dausa and Bharatpur rather than those districts entire, and a region list built on a partial claim would assert that every monument in a district sits somewhere its source never put it. Tonk district is claimed entire by nobody and appears on no region list at all. All three readings are recorded in the mapping. SOURCE AND ITS STANDARD. The monuments and their districts are transcribed from published lists of the two official registers; the district-to-region mapping is cited per district to the document that makes it. Under this site's sourcing standard an aggregated source may back a published claim, and claims resting only on one are marked "aggregated source" where they appear. WHY SOME REGIONS HAVE NO SUCH PAGE. A list of one entry is not a list. A region with fewer than 2 monuments of this kind has no page for it; those monuments appear on the region's full monument list, on their district list, and on the statewide list for this kind.
