One method, shared by every one of the 11 lists below.
WHAT THIS IS. Every university the University Grants Commission recognises in the district, across all four of its categories — central, state (public), deemed-to-be and state (private). Complete as against those lists for the districts the lists themselves identify. HOW A UNIVERSITY GETS ONTO A DISTRICT LIST, AND WHEN IT DOES NOT. The UGC's lists give an address rather than a district column. A university appears here only where that address names its district — either explicitly ("Distt. Churu", "District Sikar") or as a whole address component that is a district ("Bikaner-334601"). Where the register names only a town, nothing is inferred from it and the university appears on no district list at all: five do not, addressed only to Neemrana, Pilani and Vanasthali. Guessing the district from a town's name would be this publication asserting something its source does not say, and a road named after a neighbouring district — "Ajmer Road, Jaipur", "Tonk Road, Jaipur", "Jaisalmer Road, Bikaner" — is exactly how that guess goes wrong. ORDER. Alphabetical, carrying no judgement of size, age or standing. WHAT FELL BELOW THE THRESHOLD. A list of one entry is not a list. Nine districts hold exactly one recognised university and have no list here; the university itself is published and appears on the list for its category. SOURCE AND ITS STANDARD. Read from the registers themselves rather than from a transcription of them: the University Grants Commission's consolidated lists of recognised universities, and the Rajasthan Department of College Education's register of the colleges it administers. Both are the authority's own record of its own decisions, which this site tiers A. No claim on these pages rests on an aggregated source. WHAT IS ASSERTED PER ENTRY. The university's name as the register prints it, the category it is recognised under, the date the register gives, and its district. Nothing about enrolment, accreditation, courses or quality is claimed.
