How this list is compiled

Editorial

This method is shared by the 3 lists in the Universities of Rajasthan series. See the series.

WHAT THIS IS. Every university in Rajasthan on the University Grants Commission's consolidated list for its category. It is complete as against that list, not a selection: no cut-off, no editorial choice about what to include, and no ranking. WHY THE CATEGORIES ARE SEPARATE LISTS. The UGC recognises a university under one of four heads — central, state (public), deemed-to-be, and state (private) — and publishes a separate list for each. Those are different legal instruments, not grades: a central university is established by Parliament, a state university by a state legislature, a deemed-to-be university by a notification of the central government under section 3 of the UGC Act, and a state private university by a state Act promoted privately. Keeping them apart is the register's own distinction. None of the four is "better" than another and nothing here says so. ORDER. Alphabetical, carrying no judgement of size, age, quality or standing. WHAT FELL BELOW THE THRESHOLD. A list of one entry is not a list, and this seed does not publish one. Rajasthan holds a single central university — the Central University of Rajasthan, at Bandar Sindri in Ajmer district — so there is no list of central universities here. It is seeded as a subject and appears on the lists for its district and, where it qualifies, its age. SOURCE AND ITS STANDARD. Read from the registers themselves rather than from a transcription of them: the University Grants Commission's consolidated lists of recognised universities, and the Rajasthan Department of College Education's register of the colleges it administers. Both are the authority's own record of its own decisions, which this site tiers A. No claim on these pages rests on an aggregated source. WHAT IS ASSERTED PER ENTRY. The university's name as the register prints it, the category it is recognised under, the date the register gives, and the district where the register's own address names one. Nothing about enrolment, accreditation, courses or quality is claimed, because the register does not support one.

Frequently asked

What decides the order?
This list is ranked on a editorial basis — see the methodology above for what that means for this list specifically.
What counts as a source?
Only a citation that is inline and expanded on the ranked subject's own page — never a source cited on this list alone.
Why might an entry be missing?
A rank is withdrawn, not renumbered, when the subject it named is no longer published. The gap stays visible rather than being closed.
How often does this list change?
A new dated edition, not a silent edit, is how the ranking itself changes.
