How this list is compiled

Editorial

This method is shared by the 39 lists in the Tehsils series. See the series.

WHAT THIS IS. Every tehsil in the district — the administrative tier immediately below a district, and above a village. Complete as against its source, not a selection: no cut-off, no editorial choice about what to include. ORDER. Alphabetical within the district. This is not a ranking: tehsils are not ordered by area, population or importance, and no such ordering is published here. SUB-TEHSILS. Where the source records sub-tehsils under a tehsil, they are shown on that tehsil's line. They are deliberately not given entries of their own — the source gives them as a bare list of names with no identifiers, and creating a subject for each would be a thousand pages whose only assertion is that a name appeared in a cell. DISTRICT MAP. This list uses the district map in force after the 2023 reorganisation, the same map the assembly constituency lists use. The two monument registers on this site predate that reorganisation and use the older one. Neither is wrong; they are different vintages, and each list on this site states which it belongs to rather than quietly reconciling them. SOURCE AND ITS STANDARD. Transcribed from a published list. Under this site's sourcing standard (amendment 2, 2026-07-31) an aggregated source may back a published claim; claims resting only on one are marked "aggregated source" on the page. WHAT IS ASSERTED PER ENTRY. That a tehsil of this name sits in this district, and the sub-tehsils the source records under it. Nothing about its area, population or headquarters is claimed, because the source does not support one.

Frequently asked

What decides the order?
This list is ranked on a editorial basis — see the methodology above for what that means for this list specifically.
What counts as a source?
Only a citation that is inline and expanded on the ranked subject's own page — never a source cited on this list alone.
Why might an entry be missing?
A rank is withdrawn, not renumbered, when the subject it named is no longer published. The gap stays visible rather than being closed.
How often does this list change?
A new dated edition, not a silent edit, is how the ranking itself changes.
